In the first match, Heriot’s claimed maximum points with a 32-run victory against Murrayfield DAFS as Sean Weeraratna top scored with an unbeaten 56 in a fine batting display by the Goldenacre men.
Murrayfield DAFS were one big score away from causing an upset against the Heriot’s men. Barat Nusum and Andy Lacey top scored for the Roseburn outfit with 37 and 36* respectively. Unfortunately, MDAF were bowled out in the ninth over having fallen short on 105 with Gavin McIntyre the pick of the Heriot’s bowlers with figures of 2-27.
A superb fielding display by S.M.R.H, including two Stephen Parker stumpings, accounted for their close win over Heriot’s in a low scoring match. Keith Morton’s 2-17 helped reduce S.M.R.H. to 100 all out, two balls short of their 10 over allocation, with top scorers James Park (27*) and Jonny Brock,(26).
In reply, Heriot’s got off to a shaky start, slumping to 24-3. Heriot’s set about their recovery and a successful comeback seemed possible until Gavin McIntyre was bowled on 31 by Jonny Brock. Greg Bisset was the top S.M.R.H. bowler conceding only 9 runs and taking two wickets.
Batting first against SMRH, Murrayfield DAFS couldn’t replicate the batting form produced in the first game. They were bowled out for 78 with the first ball of the sixth over- Barat Nusum was again the top scorer with 25.
S.M.R.H. strolled to victory in the seventh over for the loss of only one wicket, Stephen Parker and Jonty Poward both scoring 27*.
The group B matches certainly didn’t disappoint with two close matches. Next week will see Edinburgh University, Watsonians and Uddingston battle it out in the first round of group C matches.
