The Cricket Scotland National Club Kwik Cricket Festival took place at Dollar Academy last Sunday (28 August).
The following sixteen teams from across Scotland attended; Murrayfield DAFS, Dunfermline, Kinross Girls, Biggar, Clydesdale, Kinross Boys, Carlton, Ferguslie, West Lothian, Falkland, Watsonians, Forfarshire, Strathearn, Stenhousemuir, Uddingston, Drumpelier, which was aimed at children aged 10 and under.
Festival organiser, Kirsteen Ross from Perth & Kinross Cricket Development explained that the emphasis of the day was about young cricketers “having a go”along with improving their game as the day progressed but mainly, having fun playing cricket. Although there was no overall winner of the festival, the games were still very competitive between clubs who rarely get the opportunity to play one another with each club playing 5 matches against clubs from different areas of the country.
She continued “It was a super day of cricket with some excellent talent for the future on display. There was some terrific fielding in tandem with some very accurate bowling and a high standard of batting with every player giving their best efforts in each game. The atmosphere was very positive and encouraging and the”spirit of cricket” was very evident with children, coaches and parents applauding good play from both teams.”
Cricket Scotland would like to thank Dollar Academy for hosting the event, preparing the eight kwik cricket pitches and for generously providing refreshments throughout the day and a big thank you to the lead umpires for the day and club volunteers that came along with the squads.
