Cricket Media 6’s- Week 3 report
With the first round of group games now in full swing it was the turn of Carlton, Penicuik and Fauldhouse to meet in the Cricket Media 6’s, with all three teams having previously experienced the indoor format before. The fixtures saw the seeded team Carlton meet Penicuik in the first game of the evening and it proved to be a closer game than the score would suggest.
Carlton batted first and some tight bowling and fielding from what umpire Sandy Scotland described as a “young side fae Penicuk” held their own and restricted Carlton to 89 off 9 overs. Unfortunately for Penicuik, R Thornton showed some great straight hitting in the last over which cost 28 runs, and looked to have swayed the game Carlton’s way. Penicuik then lost a number of wickets with some hesitant running and were bundled out for 66 in the 7th over.
Penicuik were desperate to make amends and did not have to wait long as they took on Fauldhouse in the second game of the evening. Penicuik batted first and scored 123/2 off their 10 with K Morton making 24 and G Rathven 27. Fauldhouse’s reply was a similar one to that of their opponents in the previous fixture and ended on 50/5 from only 4.3 overs with C Ashforth being the pick of the bowlers finishing with 3/7.
Carlton won the toss in the final fixture of the evening and amassed a good score of 160 with over four batsmen making scores of over 25 and J Kerr top scoring with 36. Fauldhouse gave it a good go with F Mahon making 48 but a tight spell from spinner P Mommssen earned him returns of 2/13 and restricting their opponents to 99/5, making sure last year’s semi finalists would top the group after the first round of games.
